Cheyney House Clients Graduate from Work Training Program

On May 3, 2015, Program Director Michael Beaudry recommended seven residents of Cheyney House (to the STARR-T2W2 (Training to Work 2) program. STARR-T2W2 is a Hartford-based collaborative funded by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration and the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. STARR-T2W2 training encompasses industry-recognized credentials, assisting participants with embarking on career paths and preparing them to advance and succeed in their career choices. The overall goal of the program is to serve 125 participants over the course of 39 months. STARR-T2W2 is operated by Community Partners in Action (CPA).

The seven Cheyney House residents were enrolled into the 17-week CWP/CREC Contextualized Construction Industry with a GED component. The students received text book classroom education, hands-on assignments, and payment. At the completion of the 17 weeks, each student received State Certifications in: OSHA 10, Aerial Lift, Fork Lift, Roofing, Solar Panel Installation, and Renovation/Remodeling. This particular program was provided by Capital Workforce Partners’ Job Funnel, CREC, the Ironworkers Local Union 15, and Rite Way Constructions.

On August 20, 2015, all seven clients successfully completed the CWP/CREC Construction Program and the graduation was held on August 24, 2015. In addition to receiving their certifications, each student received a $100 gift card to Walmart from STARR-T2W2, as well as a tool box from the staff at CREC.

On behalf of STARR-T2W2, we would like to thank Michael Beaudry and all the staff of Cheyney House for their support and assistance throughout the 17 weeks. As we know, the clients already have a difficult journey upon returning to the community; so it’s always noble to see when agencies can work together to help those individuals stay focused on their second chances.
