The Register Citizen serving Torrington, CT
Sound Off - Give a guy a break

The Earth Day celebration was a great event on Saturday, April 4, in Torrington. Some of the participants included seven residents of the Alternative Incarceration Center on Franklin Street. These are men who are paying their dues to society for the crimes they have committed and doing this in a very special way. By participating in the Earth Day, these men are showing society that they recognize the rights of the earth and to atone for their past deeds. No doubt, they toiled for four hours today picking up trash and making the streets of Torrington beautiful again. There is no doubt that these men love Torrington.

They can be trusted by employers when they seek gainful employment in support of themselves and their families. Jobs do have prosocial skills and these men do need them. Thank you guys for showing yourselves to the world and participating in the Earth Day celebrations! We are proud of you and please keep it up. This action today shows that the men at the Alternative Incarceration Center do take their training and assignments seriously. We commend them for their participation and wish them well. Go forth men and live well after your discharge! We encourage the people of Torrington and elsewhere for establishing halfway houses like the one in Torrington where lives are transformed daily. We thank the staff and other support groups for making this institution worth its name! I appeal to Torringtonian businesses to offer gainful employment to these men so that they can live better productive lives and not go back to negativity! Thanks Guys!
