Adult Programs: Alternative in the Community

"Results-based accountability has made us a better at what we do and how we do it. It has given our funder a user-friendly way to show the Legislature the positive impact on public safety."

Sherry Albert
CSI  Chief Operating Officer

“When I came home from prison, I had no money, no job, no friends and no real job skills. The staff at the AIC helped me greatly. Thank you to computer training, employment training, and persistence of the staff, I now have a job. They have been my mentors and teachers.”

Sound Community-Based Investments

Community Solutions, Inc. (CSI) Alternative in the Community (AIC) programs are community-based alternatives to incarceration that provide multifaceted intervention services for offenders awaiting trial, or who are on probation or parole. The program uses Motivational Interviewing techniques and curricula-driven, evidence-based models designed to assess the needs of each client to reduce individual risk factors. Services are measured using Results Based Accountability (RBA). Participants work closely with professional staff to develop individual goals and make positive changes in their lives.

AIC programs cut crime, cut costs, and build communities.

Cut Crime

CSI's Alternative in the Community (AIC) programs, funded by Connecticut Judicial Branch's Court Support Services Division, reduced recidivism from 33.5% to 22.6%, each percentage point constitutes 250 clients. CSI consistently boasts an 83% successful discharge rate or higher among AIC clients.

Cut Costs

Effective alternative to incarceration policies save money and make better use of limited resources by establishing a more coordinated and comprehensive continuum of care and supervision. Even small reductions in recidivism rates will generate substantial cost-savings by avoiding more costly incarceration. AIC programs operate at a fraction of the cost of a prison bed.

Build Communities

CSI is committed to strengthening the connection between community and individuals. AIC programs allow clients to remain part of the workforce, to be parents, to be tax paying citizens, and to play a role in strengthening the fabric of their families and neighborhoods. Tens of thousands of community service hours are performed each year resulting in savings to the community of hundreds of thousands of dollars annually.
